German Shepherd Puppies for Sale

It can be very exciting to find an ad for German shepherd puppies. It might be on the Internet or your local newspaper, but they’ve been something you have wanted for a long time. All the different breeds out there might have been looked over, but the German shepherd has become the right choice for you. However, just because there is an ad in the paper doesn’t mean it’s the best place to purchase a puppy.

German shepherd puppies that have been raised by breeders are much better to own than ones simply being given away. A breeder’s goal is to provide the best dogs out there in order to further the breed. So in most cases they won’t advertise in the newspaper unless they’re new to the area. Why? Well, reputable breeders usually have a waiting list, so they don’t really need to advertise.

They will advertise on the Internet by building their own web page. It will show you all of their “prize winning” German shepherds and pups. These breeders probably won’t tell everyone that there are upcoming litters on their website. Instead they just want to show everyone that they are breeders. If someone is truly interested they will inquire themselves or be added to the waiting list.

While this is true, those other ads could be placed by individuals who love their dogs and provide good care. It’s possible that these same German shepherd puppies have had vet care, shots, vaccinations, and even raised in a nice environment. Unfortunately you really don’t have any way of knowing except for visiting them and seeing everything for yourself.

In most cases these puppies are not registered. The sire and Dam were probably not tested for health defects either. So even though the Dam probably took care of her litter, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be health issues that surface down the road.

Where Not to Buy German shepherd Puppies for Sale

One thing we will tell you is that it should not be purchased from a puppy mill or pet store. Try to find a breeder or individual who can provide you with a healthy and happy German shepherd pup.

Puppy mills are built for making money, and the people that run them see nothing else. So the time they spend caring for the animals is minimal. This is so they can make a bigger profit. The conditions are normally unsanitary and they are quick to re-breed the dam after she gives birth. Plus, the majority of these animals never go to the vet, which means they could be sick and unhealthy. So their goal is to sell them as fast as possible.

Most of the pet stores out there actually purchase their dogs from the puppy mill breeders. The goal for them is to make a higher profit as well, and the workers know very little about the breed specifics of a German shepherd. Plus the socialization and exercise is pretty minimal.

So when you’re out looking for German shepherd puppies for sale, take the time to find the right place. You will definitely thank us later.
