Clicker Training

The concept of clicker training is to teach your dog to associate the clicker’s sound to a reward since this is way faster than producing the reward. This method is really effective in German Shepherd dog training because of several reasons: one, they are quick to learn new tricks and two, the clicker serves as a gesture of approval to your dog, followed by a reward. This way, your dog would think that every time the clicker sounds, he has done something good and will be receiving a reward. Clickers are good because they fill-in the time your dog has satisfactorily completed your order to the time you could provide the reward.

Simple Rewards Training

If you don’t think using a clicker is a good idea, then you might want to go with the traditional way of training your dog. Every time you want your dog to do something, a posture perhaps, you should give your dog a command and move his body accordingly. If he did the correct position or behaviour, give him a reward. The problem with this technique though is that you should give him a reward quickly or else your dog might associate the reward with another behaviour than your intended trick.

Training your German Shepherd isn’t really hard! With the right techniques and the proper knowledge, you could easily train your German Shepherd to perform new tricks and observe better behaviour.
