My 7 month old german shepherd always gets so excited when people or other dogs come over. She sometimes even pees around other people when she is so excited how do i stop this? I want her to just relax until I tell her to go play. Thanks in advance.
I have to disagree with the opinion that it is fear that is causing this.
Peeing can be a sign of excitability.
I would work on more socialization with the dog – with people and other dogs. This way this becomes a normal routine for the dog and it becomes less exciting.
Also, when people come over or approach your dog – tell them to not pay attention to it. When someone starts feeding into the excited behaviour, it just makes it worse. Allow them to pet her when she calms down. If another dog comes over – let them meet eachother on leash (use a prong collar to get the right correction) and when the mood has calmed down, then she can play.

Enroll in obedience and learn how to train her. She’ll do great in obedience, shepherds do extremely well at it.
It will give her confidence and she’ll learn behavioural boundaries. It will also socialize her to other people and dogs in a controlled environment to help desensitize her. She’ll gain confidence. Obedience will train you to educate your dog. It will teach you how to communicate with your dog and become a better owner. Everyone is happy, everyone wins.

GSD owner for 12 years; have done all levels of obedience and one level of Schutzhund working dog training. GSD absolutely LOVED all his classes.
It is anxiety that is causing this , so fear, so she needs more training and socilisation..ignoring the bad behaviour and praising the good.

Nerves are part of the dog’s temperament and she seems to have weak ones if she will pee while excited. She needs more training in OB…do NOT ignore ANY negative behaviors as some so called experts here tell you, ignoring equals allowing and that is the last thing you want.
If you find a behavior unacceptable, correct her with her choker or prong, period! Hope I helped!

When teaching you dog to behave well around others keep her on a leash at first around the new people. Have your friends come over (one or 2 at a time would be best and also let them know that you will be training your dog and need them to be patient and calm) and keep her on a leash the whole time. Hold her back when they first enter and dont let her jump. push on her bottom and command her to sit. reward her with treats, and if she is calm allow your friends to pet her and tell her how good of a dog she is. while you and your friends are conversing tell her to sit or lay down (while still on the leash) and if she does reward her with another treat. you might have to do his for a while untill she gets the picture. When she learns the routine and is off the leash she will gladly go play in the other room. If she pees, show her what she did and i would gate her in a room with hard wood floors or out on the porch or something like that. Young dogs need a lot of patience and kind words of reassuring but also a dominant owner. Let her know you are in charge.
