How Can I Keep My German Shepherd From Jumping Up on the Sofa & Wrecking My Window Shades?

I have an 18 month old German Shepherd & her name is Angel. Whenever she sees a stanger coming up to the house
she climbs up onto the sofa where the window shades are & starts to bark & goes ballistic.(I have a small living room) How do I get her out of the habit of not wrecking them? I do pull them
up as far up as possible. She’s a little spit fire when protecting
her home & family.

A simple way to get your dog to stop jumping on the furniture is to purchase vinyl runners that have the little nubs on the underneath side. Place this on the seat of your couch with the nubs facing up. Its an easy was for the dog to get the idea that they shouldn’t be up there. The little nubs make it very uncomfortable for them without actually hurting them.

you could get a "scat mat" which you set on the sofa and plug in–when she jumps on it, it zaps her–you can get them at just about any pet store OR online.
That’s what it’s called "scat mat".
Pretty soon, she’ll realize if she jumps up there, she’ll get a zap, so she wont go on the sofa anymore and you can take the scat mat off.

An anti-barking collar works well for training dogs to stop a variety of bad habits, not just barking. I have a Portuguese Water Dog that had the same habit as your Shepherd, 3 zaps with the anti-bark collar and no more going crazy when visitors came to my door, now she simply sits by the door, wagging her tail and happily waits for the visitor to invite her to say hello with a friendly petting. Today’s collars are very humane and do not inflict a great amount of pain, a light shock grabs the dogs’ attention letting them know that the behavior is not acceptable.
