What are the gerneral characteristics and temprement of a German Shepherd crossed with a Border Collie? I have a gorgeous 2 year old male dog (German shepherd crossed with Border Collie) and would just like to know if any of you dog lovers out there could shed some info on the (cross) breed.
He is very energetic and appearance-wise, is more Collie than GS…altho he does have GS brown and black markings.
Thankyou for your answers xx
This is impossible to know. There ARE no general characteristics for a mutt. The dog could act like a GSD, a BC, or a cross between the two. References :
Take all the characteristic behaviors of a GSD. Add in all the characteristic behaviors of a BC. Then add in any aberrant behaviors from both parent’s heritage. Mix well… Pick and choose from the resulting stew.
In short, your possible range of behaviors includes *all* the range of both breeds, plus random possible outlying behaviors.
*Generally* you’ll get a people-focussed, active, intelligent dog that has little or no ‘Off’ button, but that’s only an approximation, and a vague one at that. References :
the general information on this mix is that the dog could favor the german shepherd more, or it could favor the border collie more.. or it could be a complete mix of both.
There are no predictable traits or qualities of mixes.. even 2 pups from the same litter will be very different. References :
Well that’s pretty unpredictable. It can either be: loving, energetic, extremely intelligent, good with kids, etc.
or it can be the exact opposite… Both types of dogs are really great but mixing them…wow.. ever heard of to much of a good thing? Hot-dogs taste great and so does ice cream, but does mixing them make it better?? References : The canine part of my brain
