What do you want your German Shepherd Dog to do? German Shepherd Dogs are a working breed and truly happiest with a job. Depending on what you want your GSD to do, would really drive where you’d start your search. You may consider starting with a search on any of the GSD sites or the AKC boards.

I have a working line GSD that I intended to do Schutzhund with so I went to a breeder that was also involved in Schutzhund and who breeds dogs with a temperament to do that kind of work. We’ve worked hard on socialization with him for this so we can also take him out and about with his. He’s very different than our lab, who is really a big teddy bear.

For a good working dog from a strong line, you can pay expect to pay $1,500 or more. Some dogs that come already trained in protection cost nearly $50,000.

GSDs are strong, smart and beautiful dogs with a strong need for mental and physical stimulation. This means that you will need to spend several hours per day with your dog in order for it to be happy and fulfilled. It isn’t a lap dog type breed.

You didn’t say why you’ve decided on a GSD but I always encourage anyone to find a dog that suits their current lifestyle.

GERMAN SHEPHERD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT ONE AND SEARCH EVERYWHERE FOR ONE BUT I SUCK REALLY BAD AT SEARCHES. DO YOU KNOW ANY PLACE NEAR LAKELAND FLORIDA WHERE THEY SELL GERMAN SHEPHERDS? OR WHERE YOU CAN CONTACT A GERMAN SHEPHERD BREEDER IN YOUR AREA? OR ANY ACTUAL PLACES WHERE THEY SELL THEM. OH AND ALSO WHERE DO POLICE GET THEIR GERMAN SHEPHERDS FROM? PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

German shepherds are really good dogs, in the hands of an mature, responsible and experienced person. I wouldn’t recommend you getting one of those, it might be better for you to try and find an older, already trained and patient dog from the animal shelter.

you shouldnt be fixed on any specific breed, i think you will find it very rewarding to go to animal shelters and find a dog based soley on personality, thats how ive goten my last two dogs which i loved to death.

sisters got her two dogs from breeder, they have no personality

Your ability to search must be the worst I’ve ever seen. All I did was call up Google, type in German Shepherd, Lakeland Florida and got a hit.

    Try it for yourself.

A MINOR CANNOT REALLY REALLY REALLY PURCHASE OR ADOPT A DOG. The police departments breed their own dogs, and BTW, they are using Malinois these days, not GSD. A 14 year old cannot purchase or adopt a dog, so you are wasting our time.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT US, WHY ARE YOU USING ALL CAPS?

all you got to do is go onto breeders.net and scroll to the specific breed for instance german shepherd and type in your zipcode and there you go easy as pie and they give you a map to the breeder and the telephone number and the website but all dont have these most just have the telephone but the good breeders have the website and the telephone #

German Shepherd?

i would like a german shepherd, but im in school so i wont be able to spend too much time with each. my mum is home all day,, so she could do all that, but the dog wont have that connection with me, than what it would have with mum

so what should i do. should i put off getting a dog?

You should wait.

My husband got a dog for his 21st b’day. When we moved in together to pay for the house he had to work heaps. After a few months she was more my dog because I was the one walking and training. Also he would play with her a different way because he missed her while at work and it sort of brought him down to her level in the pack and he would have to say commands a few times before she listened. All i had to do was say her name and give her a look.

Even the dog now my husband lets on the couch and bed every now and then. All I have to do is walk in the room and he gets off. Be it very slowly with head down and tail down but he gets off. He’s use to small dogs I’m use to big dogs that should have that extra control. But my husband is really just a big softy when it comes to the dogs. The cats he hates.

it is probably best to put off getting a dog until you are 110% sure your ready for one and can care for it properly and feed it a healthy ration, keep it happy and bond with it.

If you want the dog to have a connection with you you might be better putting it off until you can spend more time with it. I think German Shepherds are the greatest dogs, but they do need a lot of exercise. Maybe your mother wouldn’t want to spend that much time with it.

I have shepherds and they seem to love all of us pretty much equally. If your mom spends time with it and you do same when you get home, there won’t be a problem. They’re great dogs and very loyal.

Sounds like you should ask your mom if she wants a dog, since she will be the one taking care of it.
