Dogs 101 German Shepherd Video Animal Planet

This is from the show “Dogs 101″ on the Animal Planet , this is the episode about the German Shepherd. In the video they clearly say the German Shepherd has the second strongest jaw bite in the dog world. If it was up to me, I would say that the German Shepherd has the strongest bite, but they don’t. Only the second strongest. This video also talks a little about the history of the German Shepherd. Enjoy, and thanks for watching.

And make sure to check out Dogs 101 on the Animal Planet.

I have a male gsd… 6.5 months…he is 29.6 kg, which I understand to be average/large for his age, but he appears very slender. They are a leaner breed obv, but this appearance coupled with the fact that he appears incredibly hungry before and after meals has me thinking he could be under-fed. How much (specific weights) should he be fed each day for optimum health and growth??? ty heaps..

like i said on another comment i dont hate on any breed. The one guy made me laugh when he said he didnt know gsd attacked so often. Then another guy said if it was a pit instead of a gsd that tried to attack me i woulda been paralized. When thier would not have been a diff.

  19. mnnole says:

    For you too say …
For you too say that there were more GSD attacks by GSD’s pre 80′s, they were a more popular dog based upon TV at the time. AGain nothing was mentioned about the needs of the dog, ie exercise. This same holds true of recent pitbulls.

  20. mnnole says:

    Desiree there were …
Desiree there were no reported problems with pitbulls until recently when they became the popular breed to have. People with improper handling of the dog/breed were owning pitbulls. It became popular to chain a pitbull to tree/post and think of that as exercise. This is the reason for more pitbull attacks in recent years, they are the popular breed with improper owner ship.

I think they r generalizing. They r all born with ears down.

  22. sheeve07 says:

    This video also …
This video also talks about hip problems. Thats where good breeding should come in play, of course hips are a shot in the dark, but when you see American lines being over 100-180 lbs, it’s pretty common to have hip problems. I also find it inderesting how they say in recent ears they have whites. I saw a VERY old pedigree of a white Shepherd. And also it speaks of long muzzles. A lot of Eastern German dogs have short wide muzzles with nice big blocky heads

  23. sheeve07 says:

    Another not always …
Another not always true thing about this video is what they stated about the ears. Not ALL GSD pups have floppy ears as puppies. Mine had his ears up at 9 weeks of age, he is now 18 weeks.

  24. sheeve07 says:

    As my last post, …
As my last post, police dogs are trained in defense, so they will bite even if there is no sleeve. That should only be done on stable, mentally mature dogs, or thats where problems arise. And there are many people out there who can’t handle some of these higher drive, harder Shepherds, I have a puppy right now who would chase you if you ran and bite your ankles. It isn’t agression it’s prey drive. You have to know how to handle this, he’s a Czech dog, very serious even as a pup.

  25. sheeve07 says:

    desiree4558 there …
desiree4558 there are not problems with the GSD itself, ust bad breeders/owners out there. I’ve seen many dogs trained in protection that shouldn’t have been, unstable temperaments, bad nerves, ect. I’ve seen fear biters. These dogs aren’t always “fearless” like this video says. These dogs aren’t bred to attack “people though” Schutzhund is done through prey drive, the only thing in a sport dogs mind is a bite sleeve.Police is a different story, and police dogs are only for an experienced handler
