How does your religion tie into your love for a significant other?
I mean how does your religion effect you love for one another? Are there values in your religion that make you love each other or honor each other?
Are there things in your religion that help you work through arguments and problems in your relationship?
How does religion over all tie into your love for another?
I asked a similar but different question previously. One user said that "love" is a choice. I would just like to add that I highly disagree with that.
It encourages me to get things right in this life, because this is not a dress rehearsal…

I kind of hate him, actually.
My non beliefs don’t cause that…just our history.
The christian beliefs I was raised with caused the marriage to happen in the first place, and made me feel obligated to stick around when he revealed his douchiness though, so I can blame them.

My religion actually teaches that we can be married throughout the eternities. In our ceremonies there is no "till death do you part." This helps me put things into a different perspective. I think it helps me love my wife deeper, knowing that our relationship won’t ever end.

In our religion, we believe in a civil marriage which is like any other civil marriage "till death do you part", or people can also strive to be worthy enough to have a temple marriage which is a sealing to your partner for eternity. That’s a looong time. Of course you can still get divorced with that too, but my husband and I take it very seriously. We discussed it before we got sealed that divorce wouldn’t be an option. We would work things out if it ever got to that point. The LDS church also is very family oriented and has a lot of counselling/financial programs to help those that are having difficulties. It is truly wonderful, nothing like the stories I hear from non-members.

In my most recent relationships I’ve noticed that respect is a extremely necessary. This ties into my religion because I have chosen to save myself for marriage, therefore I have certain limits than many guys do not respect if they don’t share the same values as me. I’m slowly learning through my dating experiences that if there isn’t respect (in any situation/friendship/relationship) then you can’t love someone and they certainly don’t love you regardless of how often they might tell you that. Love stems from caring about the other person and you can’t truly care about their well being if you don’t respect their views, standards, and opinions. Just my two bits
